Prepare your Body
First and foremost, look after your body as a holy abode. Keep your body healthy by incorporating good food, rest, and exercise as per your routine. Just as we keep our home clean and free of garbage, in the same way, we need to keep our body clean by eating healthy. Do not eat junk food. Do exercise daily. If you like yoga then it would be best for you. For the start, if you don’t have much time, then do the inhale-exhale asana of yoga. You can even do them in the bed itself when you wake up in the morning if you are too lazy to get up. That’s what I started doing in the starting until I developed the habit of doing it. Follow some detoxification techniques.
Calm your mind
In today’s fast pacing world, every person has numerous thoughts going on in the mind. Don’t think about stopping them. Instead, watch them. Don’t pay much heed to thoughts. It happens because of our biological existence. It’s the exchange of information between each and every cell in our body. It’s an integral part of our mechanism. We don’t need to fight against it. But make peace with it by watching them.
Take the first step
Meditation is all about the journey towards self-awareness. You can start watching your breath any time during the day. Bring this awareness to your system. Always remember to breathe slowly, deeply and relaxed. Most of us breathe wrong without even realizing it. In a rush to do our everyday tasks we forget to breathe properly. We squeeze our bodies while rushing. We create unnecessary tension in our muscles and also forget to breathe deeply which is called diaphragmatic breathing. So make sure you are breathing right and keep your muscles relaxed during the day to day activities. You can watch your breath while sitting on your work desk or sitting on a train or sitting in a cab. Watch it whenever you become emotional, angry, bored or tired. Start watching like you watch a movie, but here you have to watch inside yourself. Do it whenever you get the remembrance of doing so. Chances are high of forgetting it due to your busy schedules. But it will start becoming a part of you. The key here is to keep practicing.
